GREENPOWER BY THORIUM REACTORS

GREENPOWER BY THORIUM REACTORS

Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) has planned the use of large deposits of Thorium available in the country as a long-term option. A three-stage nuclear power programhas been chalked out to use Thorium as a viable and sustainable option, right at the inception of India’s nuclear power program. The three stage nuclear power program aims to multiply the domestically available fissile resource through the use of natural Uranium in Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors, followed by use of Plutonium obtained from the spent fuel of Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors in Fast Breeder Reactors.

  • Low cost power generation for 1.8 to 2 cent per kWh.
  • High Quality drinking water for the nation at 2 cent per liter water.
  • Local low cost hydrogen technology for transportation and elimination of air-pollution.
  • No Greenhouse gas emission in power generation and transportation.
  • The barge-mounted 100 MW STGR power-station are ideal.
